Description
Looks like it's time for my 2013 summary of art! A lot happened last year, and overall I'm quite proud of how far I've come!
Overall, I began a progression away from larger pixel art so I could focus on my sprites and tilesets. I also began to apply my pixel art skills to jobs to get the work experience. I fulfilled my New Year's resolution of drawing Platino less, since I felt good with his design. And finally, I learned to branch out and try a few different styles. Let's have a rundown, shall we?
January
The year started out quite nicely. Right off the bat, you could tell my style had advanced quite a bit from last year's january. I started off with revamping some old OC designs, and sketching up a birthday present for ~Cyberguy64.
February
In February, I took up a short job with ~Pro-Master-Gamer doing some sprites for his Sonic Advance-styled Jet X project. I felt a little nervous at first trying to fit into the style, but soon I got a foothold and things worked out well. I also did some Roll sprites for *Midday-Mew, which made for good NES practice.
March
After that, a lot of good things were happening! I fell in love with the designs of ~JaqDeblue and took up some Zelda Classic spriting. I also took up another short Zelda-sprite project and composed my first song in OpenMPT, Relincuished. You can find that and other songs on my SoundCloud.
April
Come April, I decided to challenge myself and open up a public requests box to draw OCs. Here, you can see characters by ~Aleronssword and !Ryuu-Kageri, respectively. I also made a tileset for a location I had in my head for a looong time, the streets of Reoteer.
May
In May, we had probably the ony pixel art I had posted in the year. Just a little Moe for Platino. I also started work with Lycus-Arts on Dragon's Slumber, and became fed up with deviantART's music-posting guidelines, making a SoundCloud account instead.
June
When June rolled around quite a bit happened. I was contacted by a client to make some sprites for a fighting game, but beyond $20.00 for my work, I really didn't hear from him...I also took up "Orchestra Castle", a short Gameboy-inspired project that spawned a few sprites and a song. I also did a Ufouria revamp in KSS style.
July
Things went pretty busy once July came. I was contacted by Andrew of "Echoes of Eternea" to make some FF6-styled sprites. I was quite flattered, really. A lot of great sprites came out of this project and my RPG sprite-skills improved immensely.
August
Ehmm...August was pretty slow. Beyond a revamp of my 2 emoticons and some YI-styled sprites for *Midday-Mew, that was mostly a month of relaxation.
September
September took a turn for the awesome when I finished my Dig-Dug spoof project, Uprising Odyssey. I pushed myself and tried to got with a limited palette with good results. I also revamped a few of my OC designs.
October
When October rolled around my art really started to pick up. ~gagaman92's birthday was the next month, but I started on his birthday present a month early so I could get things right. I started up an unpaid project "Big Fat Ninja" which is currently on hold, and made a sweet sideways GBA mockup entitled "Coloratl".
November
As the year neared it's close, I received my first paid space-shooter project, "Buzz Kill Zero". That went well, but unfortunately another paid RPG project called "Minotaurs and Unicorns" went amiss and was called off.
December
December was arguably the best month of the year. When Christmas break rolled around I had tons of time to sprite, and I ended up drawing dozens of things, the two main ones being a planned webcomic project called "Dragon's Destiny" and a short NES-styled project, Mega-Type NES.
Overall, a wonderful year! I stuck to my drawing and made it all the way through without any major hiatuses. To another great year of art!
